Police Fatally Shoot Armed Man in Sydney

(MENAFN) Police in New South Wales confirmed that officers fatally shot an armed man at a residential complex in Potts Point, inner-Sydney, on Tuesday morning after reports he had assaulted two women.

Authorities said officers were dispatched to the unit complex around 10:50 a.m. following calls that a man carrying a knife had entered the building and attacked two women, aged 56 and 48. A taser was deployed but failed to subdue him, and he was shot after allegedly threatening police.

NSW Police Force Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna told reporters later in the day that the man “was declared deceased at the scene.” He added that the two women, who lived in separate units, were hospitalized with head and facial injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

McKenna noted that neither woman was believed to have any connection to the man. A crime scene has been established, and the incident will be subject to review by police integrity bodies.
