International Pressure Mounts on Israel Demanding Gaza Ceasefire, Humanitarian Access
A statement released by the French presidential office, the Elysee, outlined the joint appeal from French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The three leaders urged Israel to cease its military operations and allow the swift delivery of essential aid to Gaza’s civilians.
"The level of human suffering in Gaza is intolerable," the leaders said, stressing that blocking vital humanitarian assistance is unacceptable and may violate international humanitarian law.
The statement also criticized what it called the “abhorrent language” used by Israeli officials, including threats to destroy Gaza.
While acknowledging Israel's right to defend itself, the leaders emphasized their inability to stand by in the face of what they termed unacceptable actions by Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government.
In a separate note, the leaders called for an immediate halt to the expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, warning that continued settlement activity could prompt targeted sanctions.
France, Britain, and Canada reiterated their commitment to recognizing a Palestinian state as a vital component of achieving a two-state solution.
