Pakistani Climber Achieves Milestone
This groundbreaking accomplishment was confirmed on Sunday by the country’s national mountaineering organization.
The final peak in his record-breaking pursuit was the 8,586-meter (28,169-foot) Kangchenjunga, located in Nepal and recognized as the world’s third-highest mountain.
Khan summited Kangchenjunga on Sunday morning, according to Karar Haidri, the secretary general of the Alpine Club of Pakistan.
Originating from the scenic Hunza Valley in the northern Gilgit-Baltistan territory of Pakistan, the 34-year-old mountaineer only embarked on his climbing journey in 2016.
In a remarkable career milestone last year, he became the first Pakistani to ascend all 14 of the globe’s 8,000-meter peaks—though some of those climbs were completed using supplemental oxygen.
His notable ascents include Mount Lhotse in 2019, which is the fourth-tallest peak globally at 8,516 meters (27,940 feet).
He reached its summit from Nepal without relying on additional oxygen, marking another first for Pakistan.
Earlier in his career, Khan scaled several major summits: Nanga Parbat (8,125m / 26,657 ft) in 2017, K2 (8,611m / 28,251 ft) in 2018, and Broad Peak (8,163m / 26,782 ft) in 2019.
Each of these achievements added to his growing reputation as a high-altitude pioneer.
In 2022, his conquests included Mount Anapurna (8,091m / 26,545 ft), Gasherbrum II (8,035m / 26,362 ft), and Mount Everest (8,848m / 29,029 ft)—the tallest mountain on Earth.
By October of last year, Khan made history once more by reaching the summit of Shishapangma (8,027m / 26,335 ft) in Tibet.
This climb completed his journey to conquer all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, securing his legacy as a trailblazing figure in Pakistani and international mountaineering.
