The Valais cantonal police reported that the initial alarm was raised on Saturday afternoon when two skiers spotted a set of abandoned skis near the base of the Rimpfischhorn peak, which stands close to 4,000 meters in elevation.
Following the report, officials conducted both aerial reconnaissance and ground searches, ultimately locating the deceased individuals on the Adler glacier adjacent to the mountain, according to the police statement.
Authorities are currently working to identify the victims and have opened a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. The investigation remains active as local officials seek to determine what led to the fatal accident.
