Mayor declares many UAVs shot down close to Moscow
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported a broader wave of drone attacks across the country, with around 30 UAVs destroyed over the Orlov Region, and additional drones intercepted over Crimea, Ryazan, Kursk, Belgorod, Bryansk, and Lipetsk regions.
Though Sobyanin did not specify the exact locations of the interceptions, Domodedovo district chief Evgeniya Khrustaleva indicated air defense systems were active in that southern part of Moscow Region.
Shortly before Sobyanin’s announcement, Moscow’s Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports, as well as Sheremetyevo, temporarily restricted flight operations. Videos shared online appeared to capture UAVs approaching the capital, including footage showing one drone being destroyed mid-air.
According to local official Ruslan Zagolovatsky, two drones were taken down in Domodedovo and another in Orekhovo-Zuevo district. No damage or injuries were reported.
Later in the afternoon, Sobyanin announced a fourth drone had been downed, followed shortly by confirmation of three more UAVs being intercepted near Moscow, bringing the total to at least seven.
The midday raid followed a report from the Defense Ministry earlier in the day stating that more than 120 Ukrainian drones were destroyed overnight across multiple Russian regions, including six over the Moscow area.
