EU Car Sales Increase 2.1 Percent in November

(MENAFN) European automobile demand expanded 2.1% in November versus the prior year, delivering 887,491 fresh vehicle registrations across the bloc, data published Tuesday by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association reveals.

Across the broader European region—encompassing the EU, European Free Trade Association, and the UK—new vehicle purchases climbed 2.4% year-over-year to 1.08 million units during the identical timeframe.

Within the EU's principal automotive markets, Spain dominated with a 12.9% spike, trailed by the Netherlands at 3.3%, and Germany posting 2.5% growth.

Electric powertrains emerged as the primary catalyst behind market expansion. Battery-electric vehicle (BEV) transactions skyrocketed 44.1% year-on-year throughout November, hitting 188,730 units and capturing 21.3% of aggregate new car purchases.

Italy witnessed a staggering 132.5% explosion in BEV transactions, while Spain and Germany recorded 60.9% and 58.5% increases, respectively.

Hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs) solidified their commanding position, representing 34% of the EU marketplace in November. HEV registrations advanced 4.2% to 301,819 units.

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles demonstrated vigorous momentum, with transactions jumping 38.4% to 91,699 units.

Conversely, conventional internal combustion engine vehicles experienced precipitous drops. Petrol car registrations plummeted 21.9%, while their market penetration contracted to 23.3%.

Diesel car registrations likewise tumbled 23.2%, shrinking their market footprint to 7.9% in November. Double-digit contractions materialized across most EU territories.
