Four Killed in Ukrainian Drone Strike on Russian Chemical Plant

(MENAFN) Four civilians have died and ten others were injured after a Ukrainian drone strike hit the Dorogobuzh chemical plant in Smolensk Region, western Russia, Governor Vasily Anokhin reported Wednesday.

Anokhin stated that the victims were employees “tragically killed while performing their professional duties,” and all injured individuals have been hospitalized. Schools in Smolensk have shifted to distance learning, while kindergartens were closed for safety reasons.

The strike caused multiple fires at the facility, which produces nitrogen fertilizer. Emergency teams have contained the flames, and authorities are considering evacuating residents of a nearby village to minimize potential risks.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that 69 Ukrainian drones were downed overnight, including 14 over Smolensk and 24 over Bryansk Region. Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian border regions have been frequent throughout the conflict, with Moscow accusing Kiev of targeting civilians and critical infrastructure. In retaliation, Russia has struck Ukraine’s defense-related and energy infrastructure, maintaining that civilians are not deliberately targeted.
