UK Urges End to Hostilities in Lebanon Following US-Iran Truce

(MENAFN) The UK has urged an immediate stop to hostilities in Lebanon, as officials welcomed a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran.

US President Donald Trump announced a two-week pause in fighting with Iran, stating that Tehran had presented a “workable” 10-point plan for negotiations.

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper described the ceasefire as a “vital step towards establishing some security and stability in the region.” She also welcomed the scheduling of upcoming talks between the US and Iran, expressing gratitude to Pakistan for assisting in brokering the agreement.

“It is vital that the proposed talks lead to a full end to the conflict and ensure that Iran does not continue to threaten the Strait or its neighbors. I also call for an urgent end to hostilities in Lebanon,” Cooper said.

Israel, however, has clarified that the ceasefire does not affect its military operations in Lebanon, and it has maintained its strikes in the area.

Cooper emphasized the UK’s ongoing efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and urged a “swift resolution to the conflict,” noting her recent discussions with representatives from over 40 countries.
