Israel Expands Control in Gaza as Military Preparations Continue

(MENAFN) Israel has increased the area under its control in the Gaza Strip to about 59%, with indications it is preparing for a possible return to large-scale military operations, according to reports.

Prior to the ceasefire reached in October 2025, Israeli forces held roughly 53% of the territory, while Palestinian group Hamas has claimed that more than 60% of Gaza is now under Israeli control, as stated by reports.

According to the same account, senior Israeli military officials are advocating for renewed fighting, viewing the current moment as strategically favorable.

"are pressing for a resumption of fighting in Gaza and believe that the best time to defeat Hamas is now," the radio said.

The report also points to ongoing military preparations, including a shift in troop deployment. Forces have reportedly been scaled back in southern Lebanon, with regular brigades repositioned to Gaza and the West Bank in anticipation of potential escalation.

These developments come as ceasefire violations continue in Gaza, alongside ongoing military actions in the West Bank, according to reports.

The truce had been intended to halt a prolonged conflict that has resulted in more than 72,000 deaths, over 172,000 injuries, and widespread destruction, with about 90% of civilian infrastructure in Gaza affected, as stated by reports.
