Sudan Recalls Ambassador to Ethiopia Over Strike on Khartoum Airport

(MENAFN) According to reports, Sudan has recalled its ambassador to Ethiopia for consultations following accusations linking Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates to a drone attack targeting Khartoum airport.

The Sudanese foreign minister stated during a press briefing that the recall was prompted by what he described as a drone assault involving both countries. He emphasized that the airport is a civilian facility and stressed that targeting such infrastructure is prohibited under international law.

He further claimed that Sudan possesses what he described as strong evidence suggesting the attack originated from Ethiopian territory, while also noting that Ethiopia should maintain friendly relations with Sudan.

The minister added that official communications had been sent to both Ethiopia and the UAE regarding the incident, although no further details were disclosed. Sudan’s government also stated that it holds both countries responsible and affirmed its right to respond accordingly.

Neither Ethiopia nor the UAE issued an immediate response to the allegations. The UAE has previously denied involvement in Sudan’s internal conflict, stating that its position is focused on supporting stability in the country.

Reports from earlier indicate that drone activity targeted several locations in Khartoum, with air defenses intercepting some of the attacks. Eyewitness accounts described smoke near the airport area, though authorities later said operations resumed after security measures were implemented and no losses were reported.

Tensions between Sudan and the UAE have already been strained, with diplomatic relations previously suspended amid accusations related to external support for armed groups involved in the ongoing conflict in Sudan since 2023.
