The response comes after US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Adm. Brad Cooper stated that American forces had “eliminated” six Iranian “small boats” that allegedly attempted to disrupt commercial shipping in the strategic waterway.
Cooper also claimed that Iranian forces opened fire on US warships and commercial vessels, issuing warnings for Tehran to avoid targeting American military assets, according to US media reports.
In a separate statement, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) rejected US claims about maritime activity in the region, saying no commercial or oil tankers had recently transited the Strait of Hormuz and describing the statements as “baseless and false.”
Iran’s navy also said it issued warnings to US destroyers operating near the strait and fired warning shots after the vessels allegedly ignored initial alerts. According to the broadcaster, Iranian officials said the US ships approached the area with radar systems switched off.
