Iran Denies Intent to Target UAE—Military Official
(MENAFN) A senior Iranian military official said Monday that Tehran did not intend to target the United Arab Emirates, according to an Iranian media outlet.
The statement comes after UAE authorities reported a drone strike on the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, which sparked a major fire. Emergency civil defense teams were deployed to control the blaze, and local reports indicated that three people sustained moderate injuries.
The incident followed earlier UAE Defense Ministry claims that four cruise missiles were launched toward the country, most of which were intercepted by air defense systems.
Regional tensions have continued to rise after strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran on Feb. 28, which triggered retaliatory actions by Tehran and widespread disruption in maritime activity in the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was later introduced on April 8 through mediation efforts led by Pakistan, followed by talks in Islamabad that did not result in a durable agreement. The truce was subsequently extended by US President Donald Trump, though without a defined end date.
