Turkey Says NATO Fuel Pipeline Project Would Boost Alliance Energy Security

(MENAFN) Türkiye said on Wednesday that its proposed military fuel pipeline project submitted to NATO forms part of a wider effort to reinforce energy supply security for alliance members on its eastern flank, according to reports.

Officials from the National Defense Ministry stated during a weekly briefing that the NATO Fuel Pipeline Project would be financed through NATO’s common funds, with discussions on its approval process currently ongoing within the alliance.

The project was presented as particularly important in light of recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz, with officials arguing it could reduce NATO’s dependence on maritime fuel transport while improving logistical resilience and interoperability among member states.

In a statement issued after the briefing, the ministry said, “Our project is five times more cost-effective than its alternatives and, if approved, will become operational in a much shorter period.”

It added, “If this pipeline is implemented, NATO common funds, which consist of contributions paid by allies, will be used economically and effectively,” according to reports.
