Indian National Killed, Three Injured in Ukraine Drone Strike

(MENAFN) One Indian national has been killed and three others wounded following a drone strike on Moscow Region overnight, New Delhi's embassy in Russia confirmed — casualties sustained during what appears to be the most significant Ukrainian drone assault on the Russian capital and its surroundings in over a year.

The Indian Embassy identified the victims as "workers" but withheld the precise location of the strike, stating that diplomatic staff are now "closely cooperating with the company's management and local authorities" to assist those affected.

"Today in the Moscow region, as a result of a drone attack, one citizen of India was killed and three others were injured. Embassy staff traveled to the scene of the incident and visited the victims in the hospital," the mission said in a statement.

In a separate account of the night's toll, Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyev reported at least three civilian deaths and several additional injuries across the region. Authorities did not immediately clarify whether his figures encompassed the Indian casualties.

The strike formed part of a sweeping Ukrainian kamikaze drone offensive targeting Russia's capital and surrounding areas — an escalation that has grown markedly more intense since mid-March, with Kyiv dispatching fixed-wing UAVs in the hundreds on a near-daily basis.

Moscow has branded the campaign as "terrorist" in nature, accusing Ukraine of deliberately striking civilian sites and infrastructure without distinction.

Russia, meanwhile, has pressed forward with its own long-range retaliatory strikes deep inside Ukrainian territory, focusing on what it describes as dual-use infrastructure — including military manufacturing facilities and energy installations. Moscow maintains that its targeting is precise and that purely civilian sites are never struck.
